May at It's an Art Thing
Where the Ocean Meets Your Canvas

A Coastal Art Month

May at It’s an Art Thing invites you to breathe deeply, move gently, and create freely, all inspired by the beauty and energy of the coast. Picture soft ocean breezes, the rhythm of rolling waves, sun sparkling on water, and the textures of sand and driftwood guiding your creativity. This month, our studio becomes a coastal-inspired sanctuary, where adults, teens, and kids can explore mindful movement, expressive painting, and skill-building in a supportive, joyful environment. Start the month with gentle yoga and breathwork, then carry that centered energy into painting, drawing, and mixed-media exploration.

A Gentle Yoga + Creative Reset Experience

Kick off Coastal Art Month with The Art of Feeling Good, a restorative experience that nurtures body, mind, and creativity.

Begin with gentle yoga and mindful breathwork to release tension, energize your body, and center your mind. Then transition into a guided painting of a serene lotus flower, where calm brushstrokes and soft colors help you explore mindfulness through art.

As you move from movement to creativity, enjoy tea and a light dessert, making this experience a perfect opportunity to gather with friends or sisters, celebrate Mother’s Day, or simply reenergize yourself.

No prior experience in yoga or painting is needed — this session is designed for anyone seeking a supportive, calming, and joyful creative experience.

Guiding Light – Mixed Media Coastal Collage

Set sail on a creative journey inspired by the rugged beauty of the Canadian East Coast. In this Coastal Serenity session, you’ll create a layered mixed-media painting featuring a lighthouse perched on textured map pieces, surrounded by gentle waves and a boat floating in the water.

Using watercolor, acrylic, and marker, you’ll explore layering, textures, and collage techniques to bring your vision of the coastline to life. Guided steps help you combine map fragments, paint, and fine details into a piece that captures both the spirit of the lighthouse and the serenity of the surrounding waters.

Whether you’re inspired by the steadfast light of a lighthouse, the rhythm of the tide, or the magic of layered textures, this session encourages mindful creativity, playful experimentation, and coastal-inspired expression.

On the Rocks
2, 8x8 acrylic

Sat. Apr. 23, 2026
2:30 AM – 4:30 PM

Slow down and settle into the quiet beauty of the East Coast.

On the Rocks is a peaceful acrylic painting class inspired by the rugged shorelines of Nova Scotia—where sea meets stone and time seems to soften.

In this guided session, you’ll create two 8×8 canvas paintings, exploring coastal textures, layered blues, weathered rocks, and the subtle movement of water.

Working on smaller canvases allows for a relaxed, intuitive approach—perfect for experimentation, reflection, and gentle creativity.

No prior experience is needed—just a love of the sea, or a longing for it. Come paint, unwind, and carry a little piece of the coast home with you.
